This 1985 Holden VK Commodore has been through a ground up rotisserie rebuild into one of the best Blue Meanie tributes you will ever see. The car started life as a base model, SL Commodore that was sold new in Victoria. Over the years, the car made it way up to Sydney where it was purchased by a reputable performance mechanic and car builder. He began the process of turning the car into a Blue Meanie that was going to be something for his wife to drive around in. After completing a bunch of high end work to the car, it was sold to the current owner as an unfinished project. The completed the car using all new parts to the high standard you see today.

Starting with the body, the entire car was stripped back to bare metal with any necessary repairs taking place. The body of the car was then file finished before being professionally repainted in the signature Formula Blue in 2020. The car wears the typical Group A trimmings including HDT grille, front bumper, rear spoiler and SS Group A decals. The build uses all genuine GM glass as well as genuine headlights and tail lights. All of the rubbers were replaced with new items during the reassembly. Completing the external look is a set of machine finished 19” HDT Aero wheels wrapped in brand new tyres.

Inside the car has been completely refinished to the same level as the exterior. The whole floor of the car has been sound deadened before the carpet went it. The trim job was completed by Top End Trimming approximately 12 months ago. The seats are the factory items that have been modified to resemble the Scheel items. The trim itself is finished in A grade Herringbone felt out of the US. The dash features a genuine facia and Eurovox stereo system. The steering wheel is a genuine MOMO item to the same spec as the originals. The car is fitted with a brand-new air-conditioning system for comfort.

Under the bonnet is a 308ci V8 engine that has been fully rebuilt and upgraded. The engine received a mild Crow cam and has been blueprinted, balanced, ported and polished. The engine is paired to a fully rebuilt M21, four-speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a new differential with 3.45 True Trac centre and high-performance hardened axles. The owner tells us that the engine, transmission and diff would have only travelled approximately 350kms since the rebuild. The suspension in the car has been rebuilt with new Bilstein shocks all round. The brakes have been upgraded with a simple Brembo upgrade kit and features larger 233mm cross drilled and vented rotors up from and vented rotors on the rear. The steering has also been rebuilt with new RGK power rack and new power steering pump. Exhaust gasses are expelled through a brand new 2.5” exhaust system. The whole car was fully rewired with wiring hidden and concealed where possible.

The car presents extremely well everywhere you look, even the engine bay and undercarriage look as good as they would have left the factory. The gent who did much of the work putting this car together actually used to work for Peter Brock with his main job being to diagnose and trouble shoot any issues with the cars, he knows these things inside out. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the best Blue Meanie tributes in the country and one that even some experts would have a hard time distinguishing from an original.
