This 1981 Toyota HJ47 Land Cruiser Troop Carrier could possibly be the best example of a low km, completely unrestored ‘Troopy’ on the planet. The truck is an all original and completely untouched barn find and has only travelled 79,150 kms from new.

The Cruiser was sold new through Motorama Truck Centre in Moorooka, QLD in October of 1981. The car was later traded in back to Motorama where it was purchased by the second owner with only 21,7165 kms on it. In the late 90s, the owner put the car on blocks in his garage with only 79,050 kms on the odometer. The truck remained there until he unfortunately passed away in 2022 where it was listed by the family for sale and purchased by the current owners. After a change of fluids, the Troopy was able to be driven onto a trailer and brought home.

The truck was stored for another year or so before being given its first was and detail in 25 years before being taken to the recent CLECS Land Cruiser show in Caboolture. The body of the truck is in exceptional condition for an unrestored car of its age. The original paintwork still looks great with minor stone chips and marks around it from road use and minor acid etching in some spots where birds had let their business sit for 20 years. Even the glass in the car presents like new with the only exception being a chip in the front windscreen. The truck still sits on its original wheels and even old school 7.50 x 16 bias ply Goodyear Custom Hi-Miler tyres which are understandably, flat spotted from sitting around for so long. You would need to factor in that you may want to replace these if you intend to drive it around.

Open the door and you feel like you have been transported back to the 80s. The interior is in exceptional shape and could easily be mistaken for a restored truck. The trim on the front seats is complete and in good shape as is the factory rubber floor mats. The gauges look like they have just rolled off the production line. What impressed most is when you look at the details inside the interior, all of the little cad plated bolts and fittings look like they are brand new replacement when in fact, they are all from 1981. From the factory, the troop carriers were actually sent to dealers without the rear seats fitted and they were then fitted at the dealer. While the rear seats aren’t currently fitted to the car in the pictures, a set of original seats and seat belts will come along with the sale. The compliance plate doesn’t have a seating capacity stamped on it from factory so it should be possible to register as an 11 seater.

Under the bonnet lives the original 2H 4.0L Diesel engine paired to the factory four speed manual transmission. The factory 4×4 system remains in place along with original brakes and suspension. The undercarriage is as you would expect of a well maintained, well stored, low km truck. When the fluids were changed the truck also received a new radiator. It has only travelled less than 100kms since being pulled out of the shed and cleaned up.

This may well be one of the best examples of a low km, unrestored Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier in existence. These trucks are extremely hard to come by these days and most of them lived a pretty rough life was work horses. This is the exception to the rule, being pampered and put away for so many years. The sale comes complete with original books and owners manual as well as pictures of where the truck was stored for most of its life and how it was found. The truck would suit an enthusiast or museum / collector.
