1978 Porsche 911 SC Coupe RS tribute

The Porsche 911 been terrorising streets and race tracks around the world for decades. A no compromise performance car that doesn’t follow conventional rules. The recipe for Porsche hasn’t changed much over the years, a great example of if something works for you, keep doing it.

This 1978 Porsche 911 SC ain’t no show pony poser car. It’s a tastefully modified and seriously fun street car that’s just at home at a race track or tarmac rally as it is in traffic. Starting life as a US delivered 1978 911 SC, the car was professionally converted to RHD years ago using parts from a RHD donor car.

The car has evolved over a number of years to the weapon you see here. It’s been through a few different liveries and looks before settling on the wide body look with Gulf Blue colour scheme you see it presented in today. The car features a RSR front bumper, fiberglass bonnet, bumpers, rear wing and front guards. The car sits low over a set of BBS wheels with R Compound Semi slick tyres front and rear.

Under the bonnet is a freshly built, 3.0L single plug flat 6cyl high spec engine (heads drilled for twin plug), cams, porting, good rods etc running twin PMO carbs. Exhaust is handled by custom headers and twin out muffler. The transmission is a 915 item with close ratio 2nd-5th gears, Modena LSD, Wevo internal gate shift and shifter as well as shift rod coupler. Helping pull things up is Porsche Boxster brakes all round with adjustable bias knob mounted on the dash. Just finished up with a major service, brake flush, new rear disks & pads. Suspension features upgraded torsion bars, adjustable Koni front shocks, Bilstein rears, and upgraded sway bars.

Inside the car has been fully redone and is very tidy but definitely means business. The car received a new dash, new carpet and new headliner. The center piece of the interior is the Recaro Pole position seats with tartan style pattern inserts. Vital signs are monitored via ’74 RS style gauges. A roll cage fills the back half of the cabin to keep the occupants safe for track work and provides the ability to mount racing harnesses when things get serious.

The car comes with a huge file of receipts totaling over $100,000 on top of the car itself with most of the work performed by Porsche specialists, RSR Sports Cars in South Australia. It also has CAMS and AASA log books from Targa and various track events it has previously competed in around the country. Even with a heavy track focus, the car is well behaved on the street and certainly not hard to live with. You wont have any issues taking it out for a Sunday cruise or to your local cars and coffee on a weekend. The best of both worlds in a very collectible little package.
