Everyone loves a bit of a tuffy, and this 1977 Holden HZ ute certainly fits the bill of a tough street car. The car has undergone a dramatic transformation from the workhorse it once was, into the machine you see here today. The body has been fully repainted in a striking red colour. The chrome and brightwork were refinished or replaced at the same time. Inside the tub is neatly painted in the same high gloss red as the exterior of the car with a removable carpet mat to keep things neat. A subtle hint that things aren’t stock under the bonnet is provided by the small reverse cowl on the bonnet and the set of 15” Weld Racing wheels.
Inside is just as nice as outside, with a new trim throughout. A pair of GTS bucket seats with Black Herringbone trim greet you as you open the door. There is an Autometer monster tacho mounted to the steering column and a pair of smaller gauges flush mounted into the dash. Push button start adds a cool race style feel to the interior. Power steering and power brakes make for a nice car to get around in.
Lift the bonnet and you will see the heart of the beast is a fully built 350ci Chevy V8. Under the bonnet is very well presented and you would certain be proud to pull up at a car meet and pop the hood to show everyone what you’re packing. The engine build includes Scat Rods, Dart Iron Eagle Heads, Comp Cams camshaft and rocker gear, Wieland water pump, MSD billet ignition and distributer, a Edelbrock Victor Jnr manifold with a Holley HP 650 Carb sitting on top. The exhaust is a custom item with HPC Coated Headers.
The gearbox is a Turbo 350 Automatic beefed up to handle some serious horsepower and with a 3000rpm stall. A hurst pistol grip shifter controls the trans from inside the cabin. Feeding the power to the rear wheels is a brand new nine inch differential with 3.5 gears. The owner tells us that the engine package has only travelled approximately 15,000kms. A custom radiator paired with twin thermo fans and a custom trans cooler help to keep all the temps in check.
