1977 Ford Fairmont XC Hardtop

This 1977 Ford XC Fairmont Hardtop has been through a full rotisserie restoration. The car left the factory in June of 1977 and was originally Platinum Blue with a black houndstooth interior and fitted with the 4.9 litre engine and 4 speed manual transmission. It was optioned with power steering, air conditioning and a long range fuel tank. The car was purchased by the present owner in 1989 as a rolling body with no engine. He stored the car like this until 2019 when the restoration began.
The car was stripped to a bare shell, mounted on a rotisserie and sandblasted. Any necessary rust repairs were then completed before the body was painted in 2 pack ‘Coolmint Green’, which is a rare XC Falcon factory colour. During the reassembly, the car received all new rubbers, new windscreen and new door glass. The chrome work and trim on the outside of the car was all either refinished, or replaced. The look externally is completed with a set of 17” Bathurst Globe style wheels measuring 8” wide up front and 10” wide in the rear and wrapped in 235/45 and 275/40 tyres.
The interior of the car has been completely restored. The seats and door trims have been upholstered back to factory specs in Black with Houndstooth insert by Winner Products. The car also received new carpets and new roof lining. The front seatbelts were replaced while the original Ford belts were retained in the rear. A Ford factory style radio is fitted to the dash but not currently functional. For comfort inside there is air conditioning and power steering.
Under the bonnet now lives a 5.8 litre Cleveland V8 engine. The engine was fully reconditioned and has travelled approximately 20,000km in another car before being fitted into the XC. The engine features a new 750 cfm Holley carb, Edelbrock performer manifold, new distributor, new water pump, new alternator and new starter. The exhaust manifolds have been sandblasted and painted along with a new 2 inch twin exhaust system. The engine is paired to a four-speed Toploader manual transmission that has been rebuilt with new bearings, synchro ring, new flywheel, new clutch, new master and slave cylinders. the tail shaft has new universal joints fitted.
Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford 9 inch diff with a 3.25 ratio non-limited slip center and new axle bearings. The suspension has been completely rebuilt with all new bushes, ball joints, tie rods and new shocks. The power steering box has been rebuilt and received all new hoses. The car features four wheel disc brakes with a rebuilt brake booster with new diaphragms, new master cylinder, all new brake lines, new brake rotors and all rebuilt calipers with new pads. The engine bay and undercarriage are both highly detailed in a factory style for a show quality finish.
The car has not been registered and driven since the restoration was completed and it has only travelled 110,470 km from new. This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the nicest XC Fairmont Hardtops you will ever find.
