This 1976 Ford Falcon XB ute has been fully rebuilt into a cool GT Themed custom cruiser. The car started life in April 1976 as an L code 250ci high comp 6cyl, three speed Cruisomatic XB ute, finished in Yellow Blaze with Saddle trim. Not much is know about the early life of the ute other than it underwent an extensive restoration with some tasteful upgrades and GT style additions.
The body of the ute was stripped back and repainted in one of the most desirable XB factory colours, Apollo Blue. With the Apollo Blue base laid down, the GT style silver outs were applied to the paint. The body features a GT style vented bonnet, GT spotlights and grille. The front bumper was rechromed and all of the stainless trim was professionally repaired and polished. There is a factory style black tonneau cover to keep the weather out of the back. The ute sits on a set of 15” CTM Muscle wheels wrapped in white lettered tyres.
Inside the car has been refinished with an all new interior to GT Specs. The seats and door trims received new white trim with a professionally restored dash and genuine GT steering wheel used. There is a GT style centre console that splits the bucket seats and houses the manual shifter. The current owner has always used seat covers whenever he has driven the car to keep the seats looking pristine. The inside of the tub has been sprayed with a factory style speckle protective liner.
Under the bonnet of the beast is a fully rebuilt, 351ci Cleveland V8 engine. The engine is said to have mild upgrades including a solid cam, roller rockers, Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 650cfm carburettor. The engine is paired to a four speed Toploader manual transmission with Exeedy heavy duty clutch. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a fully rebuilt XY length, nine inch diff with 3.50 gears. The engine breathes through new extractors and a custom dual exhaust system. The radiator was replaced for better cooling. The brake booster was rebuilt with new brake and clutch master cylinders used. The front and rear ends were rebuilt during the resto and the car received all new brake and fuel lines.
With the restoration complete, the car was awarded Best Ute at All Ford Day in SA in 2019. The ute has since made its way up to QLD where it resides with the current owner and has only travelled 3,440 kms since the rebuild was completed.
