This factory SS Holden Torana hatch back has been fully restored and tastefully upgraded into a high quality street car. The car began life at GMH’s Dandenong plant in Melbourne, built as an LX SS hatchback completed in September 1975. From the factory the car was equipped with a 4.2L V8 with M20 manual transmission finished in Cotillion White with slate black trim.
The car was purchased by the current owner as an unfinished project but had all of the right ingredients to make a great Torana Hatch. The car had received the full A9X treatment on the outside with the big fender flares and wide stance that everyone loves along with the big bonnet bulge. The car had been professionally body worked and repainted in Jet Black to a very high standard. Externally, the chrome work was all either refinished or replaced. The big booty stance is capped off with a set of custom Simmons B4 wheels measuring 15×9” up front with 255 tyres and 15×11” in the rear with some meaty 345s.
Inside the trim has all been completely replaced back to a factory style but in Chamois to give a nice contrast against the new black paintwork. There is a polished half roll cage fitted to show that you mean business. Importantly, to make sure the driving experience matches the look, the car is fitted with power steering and air conditioning.
Under the bonnet now lives a fully rebuild Holden 308ci V8 engine that has been upgraded to Group A specs running a mild cam, big valve heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold and Quadrajet carburettor. The engine is paired to a Tremec, T5 5 speed manual transmission with Mal wood under dash hydraulic peddle and clutch. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a 9 inch diff with 3.25 ratio Truetrac centre and 31 spline axles. Stance and handling is looked after by King springs with Koni shocks all round. Making sure the car pulls up is a full set of Wilwood disc brakes on all four corners.
A Torana SS hatch is one of the all time great and iconic Aussie muscle cars. This one if finished to a high standard in a fantastic colour combination with an upgraded drive line and the desirable creature comforts.
