1975 Holden HJ Sandman ute

HIGHLIGHTS: – Genuine and rare HJ Sandman ute – Fully restored to factory specifications – Brisbane built, XX7 plated car – Factory 253ci V8 engine – Four speed manual transmission – Great colour combo of Absinth Yellow with black trim – Original GTS wheels with white lettered tyres

This 1974 Holden HJ Sandman ute has been though a full ground up, nut and bolt rebuild. The car was actually sourced and restored by us back when we were doing full restorations. The car is an original Brisbane built and XX7 plated Sandman. This is important because if you know these cars, in a HJ, it can be very difficult to tell a true Sandman from any other ute, and you often have to follow a series of clues to decode it. The only definitive way to know without question, if a ute or van is a true sandman is by the code XX7 which was only stamped on the Brisbane built cars. The Sandman utes are substantially rarer than the Sandman vans so to have one with an XX7 plate is certainly a rare beast.

The car was sourced by us for the current owner who we did a full ground up, nut and bolt restoration for. The car was stripped back to nothing with any necessary repairs under taken before being sent off to Mr Restorations to be recoated in its original colour of Absinth Yellow. Once the paint was laid down, the iconic Sandman rainbow decals were applied. All of the chrome and rubbers were replaced and the ute sits on a set of GTS wheels with white lettered tyres.

Inside the cabin, the whole interior was refinished back to factory spec in black vinyl. Being a Sandman the cabin has bucket seats, center console and GTS style dash and wheel. Inside the tub was sprayed with the original style hard wearing lining that it would have worn from the factory.

Under the bonnet is a period correct L32, 253 ci V8 engine that was rebuilt to factory specifications. The engine bay is neatly detailed in a factory look. The engine is paired to a M20, four speed manual transmission. All of the suspension and steering components were rebuilt or replaced during the restoration. Since completion the car has seen very little use with the owner only driving it occasionally into town and back on a Sunday.

This is one rare, XX7 plated, Sandman ute that has been fully restored in its desirable original colour combination. This would make a great collector, investment grade Aussie classic.
