This Genuine 1974 Holden HQ GTS 350 sedan is one of Holden’s rarest and most desirable muscle cars that has been through a full ground up restoration. While production numbers are not certain, it is largely agreed that only 214 HQ GTS 350 sedans were built with 160 being automatics and 54 in manual.

This particular car was built in GMH’s Pagewood plant in Sydney being completed on the 8th of October 1974. The vehicle was built for internal use and ordered by the Acacia Ridge plant in Brisbane for one of their executives at the time. The car left the factory in code 1886 Absinth Yellow with code 30x Black interior. The car was optioned with a Turbo 400 Automatic transmission with Power assisted variable ration power steering. The current owner began the full ground up restoration in 2020 with the car only recently being completed.

The body of the car was stripped back to bare metal with any necessary rust repairs, and there were a few, all professionally completed. With the bodywork complete, the car was given a full repaint in its original colour of Absinth Yellow. With the Yellow laid down, the car received its signature GTS black outs, stripes and badges. The chrome work and stainless trim was all either refinished or replaced. Completing the look on the outside is a set of factory GTS wheels with red striped tyres.

Open the door and you will find an equally as impressive, factory style interior. The floors received new black carpets and scuff plates while the trim on the seats and door trims were all replaced in the factory pattern. The original fish scale style GTS facia and GTS gauges are in place in the dash with the correct style steering wheel front and centre. The boot is finished with an original style rubber mat and factory GTS spare wheel which has been left unrestored for a touch of authenticity.

Under the bonnet is the original 350ci Chevy V8 engine which was given a refresh in 2021 during the resto. Being an executive fleet car from new, the engine and transmission numbers were not officially recorded as per company policy however in consultation with the team at Holden Historical Services, it has been determined that the engine number in the car wears the correct engine number given its build date and sequence. The engine is paired to the factory turbo 400 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory 3.08 ratio Salisbury differential. The suspension has been fully rebuilt and the car is lowered 1 inch all round. The brakes are rebuilt factory items. Both the engine bay and undercarriage are very well presented in a factory style.

These HQ GTS 350 sedans are very rare and highly desirable Aussie muscle cars. They aren’t offered up for sale very often and rarely in this condition. The sale of the car includes a copy of the Holden Historical Services Production Report as well as correspondence in regards to the engine number verification.
