1974 FORD XB GT FALCON HARDTOP

HIGHLIGHTS: – Rare Onyx Black XB GT Hardtop – Wind back sunroof – Rebodied but fully restored to tags – Period correct 351ci V8 engine – Four speed Top Loader manual – Refinished black interior – Two sets of wheels, original and modified – One of one in its build specification from Ford – ICAARS Inspection report

This 1974 Ford Falcon XB GT is a rebuilt unicorn in a fully loaded, dream one of one specification when it comes to GT’s. What you see here is a quality restoration of a super rare Onyx Black, Black trim, XB GT Hardtop, manual with sunroof, air conditioning, power windows, dual mirrors and silver stripes. This spec is so rare that only 5 Onyx/manual/sunroof with silver bonnet cars were built, only three of those had aircon and this was the only one of them with power glass.

While the car has been fully restored, it should be noted up front that at some stage in its life, as happens with many of these cars, the car has been rebodied using a donor hardtop. This was common practice for many years if a car received a decent hit in the rear end or suffered from more rust at the time than it was worth fixing. Purchase a good donor shell and swap all of the good gear over and rebuild the car. The car wears the correct GT tags and has been stamped with the JG66 chassis number of the original shell. Upon an independent inspection by ICAARS, they agree they commented that nearly all components were transferred to the new rust free body to represent one of the most desirable but no longer existing XB GT Hardtops at a more affordable price that you would need to pay if it were spot on.

The body on the car is in great shape having been restored and fully repainted in Gloss Onyx Black. Once the black was laid down, the GT ‘Silver Outs’ were applied to the bonnet, tail panel and lower sections. The front and rear bumpers are colour coded in black. The big feature on the body is the optional wind back sunroof which operates well. The car has two sets of wheels which each provide a distinctly different look. The first is a set of 14” original style 12 slot wheels with red striped tyres for a factory look and the second is a set of custom 20” Simmons staggered two-piece wheels for a modified look.

Inside the car has been completely restored to factory specifications in its correct black trim. The seats front and rear have been fully recovered in black vinyl with black cloth inserts. The interior feels open and airy thanks to the wind back sunroof overhead. Creature comforts inside include factory air conditioning and power windows.

Under the bonnet is a period correct 351ci Cleveland V8 engine with correct small port 2V heads. Exhaust gasses are expelled thanks to a set of Aftermarket headers and a custom dual exhaust system. The engine is paired to a four speed Top Loader manual transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels via the factory nine inch differential. The front end has been refurbished and the brakes are power assisted discs on all four corners.

This car is truly a unicorn specification for an XB GT and has been through a full restoration. The original JG66 tags are attached to the car and the car has been inspected by ICAARS with report displayed.
