This 1974 Ford Falcon XB GS K Code Hardtop has been through a full ground up, nut and bolt restoration. The car was manufactured in March of 1974 and sold new through Jimmy Cole Car Sales in Casino, NSW. It was well optioned from the factory with a K Code 351ci V8 engine, four speed manual transmission and GS Ralley Pack finished in Yellow Blaze with Saddle interior. Not much is known about its early life but the car was put into storage in 1990 before being purchased by the current owner in 2017.

The new owner got stuck right into a full restoration, completely stripping the body and all panels back to bare metal before they were blasted and sealed in Debeer Epoxy. The car was in pretty good shape but like all coupes, did require some repairs. The upper plenum was removed and replaced with a new item from Better Than NOS. The roof gutters were replaced with new items from ASTILL DESIGN as was the inner and outer lower rear quarter panels and upper and lower rear tail light panels. The body was placed on a rotisserie with the underbody stripped and sealed in semi-gloss 2k and protected with black Raptor Liner. The body was primed in yellow Debeer primer and finished in its factory colour of Yellow Blaze using a clear over base. The paint and body work was completed in 2021. The original bumpers have been re-chromed and all brackets blasted and sealed in 2K. Every nut, bolt, rubber seal and bush are all new. The GS now rolls on a stagged set of Simmons FR wheels measuring 17×8.5” up front and 18×10” on the rear and wrapped in Yokahama Advan tyres.

The interior of the car has also been refinished in a factory style. First, the floor was sealed with Dynamat before new Saddle carpet was fitted. The interior has been fully retrimed in the factory Saddle vinyl as per the tag with a fully restored dash, restored factory console and restored factory GS steering wheel. The dash was modified to suit the Vintage Air controls and now has integrated air conditioning flowing through the factory vents.

Under the bonnet is the original, matching numbers, K Code, 351ci 2V V8 engine that has been fully rebuilt by MCS Automotive. The original block was bored .002” and new 10.2/1 pistons were installed. The heads received new valves, guides and springs while a Cam Tech cam and lifters were installed. Spark is delivered by a new Pro Billet dizzy with MSD 6AL box hidden in the glove box. Cooling is provided by a powder coated PWR radiator with twin thermos fans. The Vintage Air unit now uses a ford ranger condenser with integrated dryer for cooling duties. The engine is fitted with ceramic coated ‘Try Y’ headers with a custom made 2.5” stainless steel x-pipe system.

The original single rail, four speed manual transmission has also been rebuilt with all new bearings, seals and synchro’s installed. The XB brake booster was upgraded to a rebuilt XC unit along with new XC master cylinder installed. New clutch master and slave cylinders were also fitted. The genuine flywheel has been machined and new twin plate clutch fitted as per original. A new tail shaft was made by Hardy Spicer and the factory drum brake nine inch was replaced with an XB GT, disc brake unit with rebuilt calipers and new Eaton Truetrac centre with strange 3.5 gears. The rear shocks have been replaced with adjustable Viking units. The front suspension is all new including Wilwood brakes and Viking coil overs. Being a factory GS, it has the genuine twin tramp rods that have been rebushed.

The sale of the car includes a verification letter from Ford as well as a photo book documenting the restoration process. These Hardtop Falcons are some of the best looking Aussie Muscle cars ever made. This example is well optioned, matching numbers and has been through a full rotisserie restoration to a high level. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this one parked in your garage.
