1972 HOLDEN HQ STATESMAN

This 1972 Holden HQ statesman is a great affordable entry level, old school V8 cruiser. With the demise of Holden in recent years, all of the early Holdens have been trending upwards in price as collectors latch on to an important part of Aussie history. These Statesmans are no exception, and while they might not be as popular as a Monaro in the market, they remain at an affordable price point for people looking to add to their collection or get into the market.

This car is a three owner vehicle, the current owner bought the car which had been sitting around for some time but well stored and was in reasonably good condition all round. The paintwork outside was suffering from a bit of neglect and the vinyl roof was torn so he gave the car a repaint and a fresh vinyl top to liven up the outside. The paint work isn’t perfect and does have some imperfections around it up close but is certainly acceptable on a cruiser of this vintage. The look is completed with a set of American racing wheels all round and white lettered tyres.

The original engine 308ci was removed and stripped right down before being fully rebuilt with all new rings and bearings along with a mild stage 2 cam and a full exhaust system. The result is a nice reliable cruiser with plenty of power that has a pretty stout sound about it when she fires up. The engine is paired to the original automatic transmission. Other features include power steering and power brakes.

Inside the car is a bit interesting, it has a pair of bucket seats in the front with a little arm rest in the middle along with a column shifted auto. This is unusual because you would normally see a floor shift with buckets and a column with a bench so unusual to have the opposite to that in the car. The trim is in good condition all round, the inserts in the seats have been replaced and there is some wear on the passenger door arm rest to note but in general its very good for a car this age. Power windows adds a nice luxury touch to the inside.

We think this Statesman represents great value in the current market and a perfect entry level cruiser that will fit the whole family. Reach out to us if you think this might be something you would like to park in your garage.
