This 1971 Holden HQ LS Monaro coupe is a rare Aussie classic that has been neatly restored. According to its HHS Report, the car was built at GM-H’s Dandenong plant in Melbourne, rolling off the line on the 19th of May, 1972. The car was ordered as a HQ LS Monaro coupe finished in Chateau Mauve with Flax interior. It was fitted with a 253ci V8 engine, a Trimatic automatic transmission and 2.78:1 ratio Salisbury differential. The car was sold new by B.H.B Motors in Nathalia, Victoria in late May of 1972. The car appears to have lived in both Victoria and South Australia before finding its way to Queensland with the current owner in March of 2015.
When the current owner received the car, he decided to perform a repaint in its original colour of Chateau Mauve. The car was stripped down to a shell where only one small piece of rust was found under one of the chrome sil plates. This was repaired and the car completely repainted by Yandina Paint and Panel in early 2019. During the reassembly from paint, all the rubbers were replaced. The chrome from and rear bumpers have both been refinished and the vinyl roof was stripped and replaced. The car sits on a set of GTS style wheels with chrome dress rings.
Inside the car was given a full retrim back to factory specs by Rosemont Upholstery in Nambour, QLD. The factory flax colour is almost off white in appearance and looks awesome in contrast against the mauve paintwork. Being an LS, the car received factory bucket seats with trimmed console. The venetian blind in the rear window is a cool period accessory. The floors were fitted with sound deadner before being covered with new carpets. The boot is fitted with the correct rubber mat and matching spare wheel.
Under the bonnet lives its original, matching numbers 253ci V8 engine. The engine bay is factory in its presentation. The engine is paired to the original Trimatic automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory 2.78 ratio Salisbury differential. The sale of the car includes its original books, various receipts for work completed and its Holden Historical Services report. These two door HQ Monaro’s have continued to grow in value over the last few years and good examples like this are becoming increasingly hard to find.
