This 1972 Ford Falcon XY Ute has been through a full ground up build into a one of the most desirable Falcon utes in the country. The car was initially restored approximately 30 years ago and since that time has always been owned by GT club members.

The ute is a unicorn specification and top of the tree as far as utes are concerned. If you decode the tag, the car is a K code, 351 V8 ute with four speed manual transmission, finished in Wild Violet with White interior. The car is stamped with a JG number to match the tag and the engine block is stamped with a matching JG number. The only discrepancy is that when you decode the model number on the tag, it corresponds to an XA ute rather than an XY ute meaning it would have started life as an XA originally. For this reason, we will refer to it as a K code tribute despite the build and numbers all matching the tag.

Starting with the body, the ute presents extremely well, especially for a vehicle that was restored 30 years ago. The current owner tells us that the body used in the build was originally a V8 and factory Wild Violet. The ute is dressed with a bunch of GT gear including badges, grille, front spoiler, mirrors, fuel cap, a genuine shaker and genuine GT bonnet. The massive wing on the rear is a super cool period accessory but just bolts through the inside of the tub meaning it is completely removable if you don’t love that look. There are two tonneau covers, one with previsions for the wing and another without. Finishing the look on the outside is a set of Bathurst Globe style wheels with red striped tyres.

Inside the ute has been completely refinished in white trim. The dash and centre console are original GT items and the white interior provides the perfect contrast against the Wild Violet paint work. The venetian blind in the rear window is a cool period accessory. From the drivers seat you could be mistaken that you were sitting behind the wheel of a legit GT. For tunes while cruising there is an aftermarket CD player neatly hidden away in the glove box.

Under the bonnet is a 351ci Cleveland V8 engine with 4V heads that has been fully rebuilt and is topped with a genuine shaker. The previous owner gave the engine bay a bit of an upgrade since the resto with a bunch of detailed added in with paint dabs and delivery style markings. The engine is paired to a four-speed top loader transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff. The underside has been given a freshen up by the current owner again with some detailing work and adding in some delivery markings. The exhaust features phase III style headers into a custom dual exhaust system. The suspension and brakes have all been rebuilt.

If you’re a ute guy, this thing is about as close as they come to a GT. The car is built to arguably the most desirable specification and colour combo. Cars like this don’t come along often, so if you want to see this one parked in your garage, be sure to register and bid.
