This 1972 Holden Monaro HQ Coupe has been through a full ground up, rotisserie build into a show quality, custom restomod. The car was pulled down and went through its complete rebuild in 2013 by a Gent in QLD. The build was a no expense spared mindset with every nut and bolt in the car replaced.

The body of the car was removed from the chassis, stripped to bare metal and placed into a rotisserie. Any necessary repaired were undertaken before it was fully repainted in Plumb Purple with white GTS stripes. There are no wild body modifications to the car, instead opting to keep the car true to its original design. All of the chrome work, trim and badging was replaced at the same time. The car sits on a set of 18” Schott Billet wheels all round. The level of detail in the build is high with the underside of the floors being gloss painted.

Open the door and you will be greeted by a full custom retrim with a classic throwback in its styling. The dash has been smoothed and painted with the original gauges being replaced by Dakota Digital items. A custom centre console with ratchet style shifter splits the front seats. There are modern bucket seats trimmed in black leather with houndstooth inserts, a throw back to the classics. The door trims are fully recovered and the carpets and headliner were both replaced. There are some extra creature comforts too with air conditioning and power steering making for a nice driving experience. Finishing touches include a Billet steering wheel, mirror and accelerator pedal. The boot is decked out with neat panelling that houses a big Pioneer sound system.

Pop the bonnet and things start getting interesting. Sitting in the middle now is a new LS2 6.0L V8 crate engine that has been upgraded with a comp cam, lifters, larger throttle body and valve springs. The engine is paired to a computer controlled, four speed auto built by Bob Grant with modified stall convertor and all the tuff bits. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford 9 inch diff with True Track Centre and custom axles. The fuel system has been upgraded with an extra EFI fuel pump and surge tank. Exhaust gases are expelled through a ceramic coated stainless steel, mandrel bent exhaust system. The suspension and brakes were also replaced during the build and now feature four wheel disc brakes. The engine bay and undercarriage are highly detailed and presented to a show quality standard.

Since completion the car has won a number of awards including at Summernats. The car has been previously registered in both QLD and NSW and has only travelled 3,150 kms since it was finished. The opportunity to buy cars built like this don’t come up very often and a restomod is an awesome way to provide the best of modern performance and reliability wrapped in a classic package.
