This 1972 Chevy Chevelle has been through a full rebuild into a cool custom street machine. The car has a cool history, having been used in an American TV show called Car Warriors where legendary hot rodder Jimmy Shine gives two teams, 48 hours to transform a car each, with the winner taking home both cars. The previous owner purchased the car out of the US sight unseen and unfortunately when it arrived it was a massive disappointment. As you would expect from a TV show where cars are built in 48 hours, essentially everything needed to be redone. Not one to give up, the decision was made to strip the car down completely and start from scratch.

The car was dropped to Rods Custom Restoration for a colour change that was originally going to be black but after speaking to the guys at House Of Kolor, they decided on Candy Apple Red. The car was fully repainted and all of the chrome work was replaced. While the paintwork on the car is completed to a high standard you can see some minor imperfections through the lead wipe joins on the roof. The car sits slammed over a set of 20” Intro V-Rod billet wheels.

Inside, the boys at Rides By Kam gave the car a full custom interior with colour matched custom dash and console surrounded by loads of cream leather. The seats are VE SS Commodore items modified to fit and the leather continues into the boot with a custom stereo install. The custom dash hosts a full house of AutoMeter gauges to keep an eye on the vital signs. A bunch of billet parts were used inside including the steering wheel, window winders and door handles.

Poking its head up through the bonnet is a freshly rebuilt, 350ci V8 engine topped with a TBS 6/71 Supercharger and dual 750cfm Holley Carbs. The engine was fully rebuilt with forged pistons and all new bearings by G-Force Performance centre in Feb of 2022 with a receipt for approximately $11,000 provided in the paperwork. The engine has a nice blower whine and a fat idle. Since the rebuild the car would have travelled less than 500 kms. The engine is paired to a fully manualised Turbo 400 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a GM 12 bolt diff with positrac centre.

The car gets a dramatic stance thanks to a full air suspension setup controlled by Accuair e-level air management. This allows for the car to have three different preset ride heights and self-levels. The front end uses tubular control arms with RideTech Shockwave air struts with the rear sits on RideTech Airbags with fox shocks. The brakes have been upgraded to include Baer 330mm discs and T4 calipers up front with power booster.

Upon completion of the car in 2014, it made the top 60 hall at Summernats and has since been featured in Street Machine Magazine.
