This 1971 Holden HQ Monaro coupe has been through an extensive rebuild into a GTS tribute. The car was in poor condition when it was purchased by the current owner in 2005. He purchased the car as a restoration project so wasn’t phased by this and immediately got stuck into the job.
He immediately pulled out the engine and transmission and sent them both off to be fully rebuilt. In 2007, the car was sent off to The Bump Shop in Brisbane where the body was stripped down to bare metal with any necessary repairs undertaken. The car was then fully repainted in PPG clear over base in Tangerine orange with Lone O’Ranger stripes. The car is fitted with GTS guards, GTS badging and black outs. All five GTS wheels were sandblasted and restored at the same time.
Inside the car has been refinished back to factory look in black vinyl by Jobsons Motor Trimmers. There is a GTS style dash, steering wheel and centre console. The carpets were replaced and all new trim was used on the seats front and rear. Inside of the boot there is an original style rubber mat and battery box for the battery which was relocated from the engine bay.
Under the bonnet live a 308ci V8 engine that was fully rebuilt in October, 2005 by Stitchlok in Wooloongabba. The rebuild included new pistons and rings, linishing the crank, new big end and main bearings, new cam, reco cylinder heads, machined valves and seats along with all new gaskets. The engine is paired to a fully rebuild M21, four speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a 10 Bolt Salisbury differential.
These HQ Monaro coupes are always highly desirable and super popular when we have them here in the showroom. This one having been through an extensive restoration is sure to be well sought after.
