This 1969 Ford Falcon has been fully rebuilt over a number of years into a tough XY GT Replica. The car actually started life as an XW with the car being completely stripped back to nothing and fully rebuilt. The build began in January of 2010 and was completed over five years, finally finished in 2015.

Starting will the body, the whole car was stripped to a bare shell and place on a rotisserie. Any necessary repairs were made. The entire car was hit with epoxy primer before being coated in PPG Vermillion Fire with the correct GT black outs by Springfield lakes Paint and Panel. The front and rear bumpers were rechromed and all of the stainless trim was straightened and repolished. To pull off the GT look a bunch of brand new parts were used including a new GT front spoiler, rear spoiler, fuel cap with lock, bonnet with alloy pin rings, new Alloy shaker with ring, sill moulds, head lights, driving lights, GT mirrors and GT side stripe decals. Some reconditioned parts include the tail lights and GT garnish and front GT grille. There is a new windscreen and reconditioned wiper motor with correct speed wipers. Giving the car a tough look on the outside is a set of Satin Autodrag wheels measuring 17” up front and 15” in the rear.

Inside the car has been completely refinished back to a factory look by Muscle Car Interiors. Because the car was always going to be a toughy, an Andra spec chromoly hidden roll cage was built and engineered by Petar Engineering. The inside received new hood lining, floor carpets, dynamat, seat trim, door cards, crash pad, parcel shelf, console, ignition switch, headlight switch, window winders, interior lights and rubbers all round. There are new seat belts and buckles as well as mod plated baby seat anchors added for safety. The dash and instruments were fully restored and there is an original GT steering wheel in place. Tunes while cruising are provided by a new Retrosounds Bluetooth stereo system. All of the door strikers, latches and bonnet springs have been redone in factory style gold zinc.

Under the bonnet lives a tough 351ci Cleveland V8 built by Westside Service Centre. The engine build features a Scat rotating assembly, 2V cast heads with a lot of port work, 4V vavles, Crane springs, titanium retainers, Yella terra rockers, Trend push rods, Crower solid roller lifters and a 700 lift Crane solid roller cam shaft. The engine is topped with a Funnelweb manifold and 950hp Holley carb. Spark is provided by an MSD ignition system with Blaster coil. Keeping everything cool is a new copper radiator with electric thermos fans fed by an electric water pump. The electrical system has been completely rewired by Hawaiian Auto Electrical and upgraded with new relays, fuses, circuit breakers and a big alternator with oversized pulley. Fuel is supplied by a new fuel tank with Aeroflow fuel line and filter pushed by a robb MC fuel pump. Exhaust gasses escape through Genie extractors into three inch collectors to the diff then 2 ½ inch over the diff and out the back.

The engine is paired to a fully built automatic transmission by Bob Grant in Coorparoo. The trans is rated for 900hp with a full manual valve body, deep pan with sealed locked dip stick, 5000 rpm Converter Shop stall and extra large cooler. There is a tail shaft loop encasing a custom built Hardie Spicer 3.5 inch tail shaft with Strange yokes and 1350 series unis. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a 9” diff built by Aussie Diffs Currumbin with Eaton True trac centre, 3.9 ratio gears and Dutchman 35 spline axles.

The brakes have been upgraded with slotted rotors and Hopper Stopper twin piston callipers up front. The rear is discs sourced from an EB Falcon with slotted rotors. The factory brake booster has been rebuilt and connected to a CVR vacuum pump with the original brake master cylinder modified to suit front and rear disc brakes. New custom hand brake cables to suit rear disc brakes wrapped in heat proof boots. Finally all new brake hard lines and hoses. The suspension has also been completely redone with all new King springs, Bilstein shocks, upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushes, sway bar bushes and spring saddles. The steering has also received a new pitman, drag link, idler arm, inner and outer tie rod ends, rag joint and a reconditioned 16-1 GT Falcon steering box.

The result of all of this work is a tough and well built XY GT Replica finished in one of the most desirable factory colour combinations. Although its primarily set up for street duties, the current owner has run the car at Willowbank where it went 11.40 at 126 mph.
