1971 CUSTOM CADILLAC CONVERTIBLE
This is not your average 1971 Caddy Convertible. This car has been through an extensive rebuild into the show piece you see here today. The boys here at 782 were heavily involved in the build with only the paintwork and trim being outsourced by the owner at the time. We have been lucky enough to be a big part of the cars history, not only working on the build, but also selling it through the showroom to its latest owner. The car was first brought to us as a run of the mill and a little tired Caddy Convertible with the owner at the time approaching us to build the car he had just purchased. After going over the long list of items he wanted in the final car, the boys got at it and tore it apart to begin the rebuild process.
The engine is the original 8.2L Cadillac V8 that was removed from the car and rebuilt with a mild cam before being nicely detailed, painted and fitted with a every bit of bling you could possibly buy for it at the time including a new carb, intake, polished rocker covers and a polished billet pulley kit up front. The engine is paired to the original Automatic transmission and the car starts right up and runs and drives very well.
By far on of the biggest features of this car other than its imposing size and chrome work is it’s air bag suspension system. This car is a front wheel drive and the front end had to be tubbed and modified to be able to lay out. From the windscreen back it’s pretty much a trailer with a flat floor… still clearance had to be made and these cars run such a high offset wheel which is challenging when trying to get them tucked up in the guards. It was no easy feat but done and engineered with a QLD mod plate… the system is a full self-levelling air ride system that automatically comes up to ride height when it’s put into drive… the car has 3 pre-set heights you can switch between and while the car is in park you can use the 10 way switch panel to make it move however you want, it also has a remote on the keys you can use if you want to show it off a bit and stand back with the crowd. The car lays hard over a set of Chrome 20” Lexani wheels
While the fab work was going on the boys did any required repairs to the body which included some floor pans and lower guard repairs. Once that was completed the car went off to the painted and was coated in Zeralic Pearl which lays neatly over the big body lines of the Caddy. New seals and weather stripping were all fitted after the paint was completed.
The interior was done by the owner’s trimmer and was all done in classic white short grain leather with new seat foams shaped for more comfort and support. Cadillac embroidery in the seats and a custom boot fit out won’t let you forget you’re rolling in the top of GM’s range. Of course, along with the new trim, there is all of the standard Cadillac creature comforts like power windows, power top, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.
The build on this car was completed approximately 6 years ago now but the car is still in fantastic condition all round. The car has been built very well and is fully mod plated and legal in QLD. It represents great value for a car with this much time money and effort in it and is currently priced at approx. half of the total build cost. It is certainly a statement car and turns head as it cruises down the road nice and low.
