1969 Holden HT GTS Monaro

HIGHLIGHTS: – Genuine factory V8 GTS Monaro – 1 of 1 in special order colour “Turbine Bronze” – Factory 253ci V8 engine – Saginaw Four speed manual transmission – Code 18X Sandalwood and black interior trim – 14” period Dragway Wheels

This 1969 Holden HT GTS Monaro is a neat example of an iconic Aussie muscle car finished in a 1 of 1 special order colour from the factory. The car began life at the Elizabeth plant in Adelaide, rolling off the production line in the second week of July, 1969. This HT GTS Monaro is significant because it is one of one, the only HT model Monaro GTS Coupe to have been painted at the factory in code 567-11267 Turbine Bronze Metallic. The car is finished with code 18X Sandalwood and black interior trim. It is thought to have originally been ordered by GM Sales boss John Bagshaw, who subsequently changed his mind prior to delivery and ordered a Brougham instead. The car was purchased new through Mollison Motors in Kyneton, Victoria by the proprietor of an Ampol service station in Niddrie, Victoria. The Monaro attended lots of shows and events during its life and was a regular to the Falls Creed ski fields. It continued to perform family duties up until the late 90s. After this it was used for special occasions only. The car was purchased by the current owner back in 2021 and at the time was a two-owner car.

The body of the car has been repainted at some stage in its life in its original colour of Turbine Bronze metallic. The chrome and brightwork on the car is all complete and along with the paintwork can be described as tidy driver quality. There are a couple of period accessories including Aunger rear louvers and the car sits on a set of 14” Dragway wheels with new tyres.

The inside of the car has recently received a retrim back to factory in Sandalwood vinyl. The rubbers on the car were also replaced at the same time. Front and centre is a brand new but period style, wood rimmed steering wheel. The carpets have been replaced on the floor with all new factory style trim to the door trims and seats. The dash remains the original GTS item with centre console holding the manual shifter.

Under the bonnet lives a factory 253ci V8 engine. The engine bears the stamping 253H3645 which according to correspondence with Holden Historical services is in the correct range to be original to the car. The engine is paired to a Saginaw four speed manual transmission. The exhaust system was recently replaced during the current ownership.

These first generation Monaros are iconic Aussie muscle cars and this one being a factory V8 GTS car in a one of one colour combination makes it extra desirable. The car has been maintained over the years and could be described as a neat driver quality example with minor imperfections around it. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this one parked in your garage.
