This 1968 Pontiac Firebird has been fully restored and upgraded into a tough and sinister looking, pro touring style muscle car.
Externally, the car has been fully repainted in gloss black for a sinister look. The bonnet is correct for a factory 400 car and the side badges, fuel cap badge and side grille pieces have been shaved. The rear bumper is actually a Camaro item of a similar era so it doesn’t have the cut out around the number plate the stock Firebird one has. All of the chrome has been deleted with both the front and rear bumpers, door handles and window surrounds colour coded gloss black. There is a front chin spoiler up front and a optional duck tail spoiler on the rear. Completing the look externally is a set of 18” Riddler wheels finished in grey with black dish.
Inside the car the dark theme continues with an all black interior. The steering wheel is a new 15” aftermarket item and the gauges have been converted over to digital in the original style housing. There are bucket seats up front with a bench in the rear and a Hurst quick shifter on the floor. There is a big delete panel in the middle of the dash to ditch the old radio and heater controls. There is new carpet on the floors as well as in the boot.
Under the bonnet things begin to get serious with a 600hp, 461ci Pontiac V8 engine built by Butler Performance in the US. The engine build features Competition Assemblies cast steel crankshaft, Performance bearings, forged 5140 I-Beam rods, 7/16” ARP 8740 cap screw rod bolts, Forged 4032 Mahle pistons, plasma-moly file fit rings, Pontiac RA/SD High Vol. 80 psi Oil Pump, TCI Racing Starter gear reduction, 87cc Edelbrock Round Port Heads, Ported to 315+CFM, Complete w/ Ferrea Stainless Steel Valves, Performance Valve Springs (Matched to Application), Chromoly Locks, Retainers, Locators & Viton Valve Stem Seals w/ ARP Rocker Studs & Guide Plates and a Competition Cam. Spark is handled through an ICE programable ignition system and exhaust gasses are expelled through Dougs Ceramic coated headers into a custom exhaust. The engine is paired to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission that has been built to handle 850hp with 3000 rpm converter. The power is fed to the rear end through the factory 3.9 ratio Positrac rear end. To improve handling, there are adjustable coil overs up front and lowered springs in the rear. Stopping power is provided by power assisted brakes with discs up front and drums in the rear.
