This 1968 Ford XT Falcon has been through a ground up restoration into a neat GT Replica. The car was purchased by the current owner approximately 2 years ago but the build was completed by the previous owner. The previous owner has built a number of cars in the past and had a lead on two XT Falcons, this one which was a falcon 500 and a damaged genuine GT. He ended up buying both cars and built this Falcon into a GT replica using what he could salvage from the genuine car.
Starting with the body, the car was stripped back to a bare shell and then right down to the metal. From here, any necessary rust repairs were performed before the car was professionally repainted in Arctic white with GT black outs to the sils and tail panel. The car was assembled on a rotisserie with all the chrome and brightwork refinished or replaced. GT specific items like badging, grille and side stripe were fitted. The car has a tough stance thanks to a set of Centerline Convo Pro wheels.
Inside the car, the trim is a mix of new items along with original parts salvaged from the genuine GT and fitted into this car. The carpets on the floors have been replaced with all new sil plates. The headliner has also been refinished. The seats themselves wear the original GT covers. The door trims and dash cap appear to be new with correct GT style dash and wheel in place.
Under the bonnet lives a 302 ci Windsor V8 engine that has been rebuilt with a mild cam, genuine GT heads and a CQ-650 double pumper carburettor. The engine is paired to a four speed Toploader manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a Ford 8 inch diff. Exhaust gasses are expelled through extractors pairs with a 2 inch exhaust. The brakes have been upgraded to include power assisted discs up front sourced from an XF Falcon.
This fully restored XT GT Replica is a fantastic classic Aussie muscle car. Since completion the car has only travelled approximately 3,000 kms. These early Falcons are always sought after and clean examples like this can be hard to come by.
