This 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe has been right hand drive converted and neatly upgraded into a tidy American classic cruiser. The car was built in the San Jose plant in California in late May, 1965 before being sold new in Los Angeles. From the factory the car was a ‘C’ code 289ci V8 with an automatic transmission finished in Caspian Blue with Blue Crinkle vinyl interior. There is some great documentation that shows the car lived most of its life in California before finding its way to Australia in 2010. The car was then purchased by the current owner on Valentines day in 2014 from a gent in Blackburn, Victoria. At the time the car was described as a nice older restoration with room for minor cosmetic and mechanical improvements.

The body of the car is tidy in presentation and is restored in Caspian Blue as it came from the factory. The chrome work and badges have all been refinished or replaced with new chrome wheel arch moulds and sil plates fitted to the car in 2020. Other recent work includes new door rubbers, new rear windows and new quarter windows. The car sits over a set of GT style wheels with white wall tyres.

Inside the car you will see a neat interior again in factory presentation. The biggest change you will notice is that the car has been converted to right hand drive. There are some very nice options inside too with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning with under dash unit. There is an older style digital head unit fitted for tunes while cruising.

Under the bonnet is a 289ci V8 engine that was rebuilt by Montville Auto in June of 2015. Although they never stamped vin numbers into these early Mustangs the casting dates on the block indicated a 1st week of May 1965 casting which would mean it is likely the original block for the car. The engine bay itself is very well presented in a factory style. The engine is paired to the factory C4 automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the factory 2.8:1 ratio diff. The brakes haver been upgraded to be power assisted discs up front with factory drums in the rear. The car was rewired in 2015 to include modern type fuses and battery isolation switch for better reliability.

These little first generation Mustangs are great reliable classic cruisers with iconic styling and loads of parts readily available if needed. The car comes with a documentation file including original sales receipt, original registration, original owner Id card, original window sticker, various registration certs and engineering paperwork for the conversion.
