This 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe has been rotisserie restored and upgraded into a super neat and reliable classic cruiser. The car was imported into Australia in 1997 by a gent in Victoria. Over a number of years the car was stripped back to a bare shell before being completely restored and upgraded.
Starting with the body, the car was stripped down and placed on a rotisserie. From here any necessary repairs were made and all of the fabrication for the right hand drive conversion completed. Once the body was complete it was red coated in its original red colour including the inside of the engine bay. The chrome and bright work on the outside of the car was all either refinished or replaced. Externally there are no significant modifications, instead the classic lines are maintained. To complete the look on the outside the car sits on a set of 15” chrome wire wheels.
Inside the car was completely refinished in all new black trim. There is a timber look facia on the dash and glovebox with centre console splitting the bucket seats. In general the interior looks factory with the exception of the right hand drive conversion but when you look a little closer you may catch a hint of the modern touches. In the middle of the dash there is a heads up display set up that projects on the windscreen. There is an aftermarket stereo system with headunit hidden in the glove box and external controller between the drivers seat and console. Under the dash is a period correct vents for the air conditioning system.
Pop the bonnet and you will find a late model, fuel injected, Windsor V8 engine sourced from a ‘Fox Body’ Mustang. This provides modern performance and reliability which is often lacking in a classic cruiser. The engine is paired to a Ford AOD four-speed automatic transmission. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff. Brakes have been upgraded to be power assisted discs up front with drums on the rear. The drive comfort is improved thanks to power steering.
The end result of the build is a super neat classic mustang that you could happily throw the keys to anyone and they could drive it comfortably. The car comes with an extensive file of receipts and paperwork including build pictures and a copy of engineering paperwork for the steering conversion, late model V8, transmission, differential and brake upgrade. Previously registered in both Victoria and QLD. This Mustang is being offered at NO RESERVE and will sell to the highest bidder at the end of the auction.
