This 1966 Ford Mustang fastback has been neatly restored and tastefully upgraded. The first generation Mustangs would have to be one of the most iconic and universally loved American classic cars in existence. They are cars that everyone seems to be drawn to and associate with, especially in the fastback body style.
The car was stripped back to a bare shell where the necessary repaired were undertaken. The owner intended to run some horsepower through the car to made the decision to replace the floor pans as well as the inner and outer sils with convertible items for extra rigidity. A Shelby style bonnet with pins and bonnet scoop was added as was a set of Shelby style side scoops and Shelby rear windows. There is a race style fuel filled moulded into the top of the rear guard which hides an isolation switch. The entire car was repainted in 2 pac gloss red. The rear features new tail lights with billet surrounds as well as a locking billet fuel cap. The front and rear chrome bumpers were both replaced. To complete the look on the outside the car sits on a set of 15” American Racing Torque thrust style wheels.
The interior has also been completely refinished in red vinyl to match the exterior. The dash, door surrounds and sail panels were painted to match the outside while the carpets were also replaced in red. The seats front and rear were trimmed in red vinyl with new red lap belts fitted. The dash features a full set of aftermarket gauges with aftermarket steering wheel front and centre. To keep things cool inside the car is fitted with air conditioning and there is also power steering and power disc brakes for a nice driving experience.
Under the bonnet lives a 347ci Windsor stroker V8. The engine was built with Edelbrock E-Street aluminium heads, roller rockers and a new Holley carb. Spark is provided by a new distributer, leads, plugs and module. Fuel is supplied by a new electric fuel pump. Keeping things cool is an upgraded radiator with electric thermos fan. The engine is paired to an AOD four speed automatic transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through the standard diff with 3.25 ration gears. The suspension is rebuilt standard items with the brakes being upgraded to power assisted GT style Kelsey Hayes disc up front and factory drums in the rear.
These early Mustang Fastbacks are always extremely popular and this one being nicely restored, with an upgraded driveline and some nice creature comforts will be an attractive option. The car is running at NO RESERVE so be sure to register and bid if you want to see this pony parked in your garage.
