This 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback GT has been through a complete, ground up rebuild. The car was imported into Australia back in April 2001. While it was a good car to start with, the Mustang received a full ground up restoration over a number of years and completed in 2020. Since then, the car has been well kept and maintained by collectors and enthusiast owners.

The body of the Mustang itself was in good condition prior to the restoration. The bodywork was performed by Barry Reynolds who is a care body builder from Bendigo, Victoria. Once the body work was complete the car was fully repainted using 2 pac in the original Candy Apple Red. The chrome and bright work on the outside of the car was all either refinished or replaced. The car features the correct GT appointments including grille mounted spotlights, GT Badges, GT gas cap, GT stripe, rear valance with exhaust exit and disc brake front end. The look is completed with a set of correct GT style wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich white letter tyres.

Inside the car has been completely refinished with red and white Deluxe ‘Pony’ interior. The seats received new foam and tracks before being recovered. The rear seat is the fold down type and the dash features woodgrain highlights. The correct GT style steering wheel and GT Rally pack gauges are in place. There is a full length centre console with wood grain insert. Keeping things cool inside is an aftermarket air conditioning system with original style under dash unit. The wiring was completely redone with a new harness and there is a replica Mustang AM/FM radio in place. The boot features the correct tartan boot mat and spare tyre cover with correct Gt style spare wheel. We have removed the back seat and checked the hole in the boot to confirm the correct GT dual exhaust bracing is in place.

Under the bonnet lives the original ‘A’ code, 289ci V8 engine with four barrel carb. The engine was rebuilt in 2012 by GV Performance in Melbourne. The engine is paired to the original four-speed top loader manual transmission. The front brakes are rebuilt 4 spot Kelsey Hayes discs with new flex lines, hard lines, booster and master cylinder. The rear drums have also been replaced along with new shoes. The suspension received new upper and lower control arms up front along with new shocks. The rear springs were rebuilt to correct GT specs. The heavy duty GT sway bar remains in place. The car has been converted to power steering using a Borgeson variable rate box paired with original power steering pump and new lines. The car was fitted with a new, GT style dual exhaust system with original manifolds and GT trumpets.

There first generations Mustang Fastbacks are iconic American classics and always extremely popular here in the showroom. This one being a fully restored, A code, four-speed, Genuine GT that’s loaded with options is about as good as they come.
