This 1965 Volkswagen Kombi has been through an extensive, ground up, nut and bolt restoration. The bus was an original 15 window kombi which has been transformed into a 23 window Samba tribute thanks to the addition of sky windows and ragtop kit added during the resto. The current owner purchased the car from an 85 year old gent who had owned the car from day dot. The car was still running but in poor condition all round. The restoration of the car was completed approximately 2 years ago.

Starting with the body, most of the large panels were warped or rusty and required replacing including front nose cone, both dog legs, complete new floor (front and cargo), battery box and door sections. As mentioned previously, the Kombi was fitted with sky windows and sliding rag top at the same time. The whole bus was paint stripped and all rust treated, before being hit with two coats of primer followed by one coat of final epoxy primer. From here the bus received its cool coastal colour scheme of VW L380 (Turquoise) bottom and L289 (Blauweiss) Top in acrylic paint with PPG clear coat. All new finishing parts were sourced from Wolfsburgwest, including but not limited to: headlight units, tail lights, indicator lights up front, windscreen wiper arms and blades, stainless steel sliding window glides, door mechanisms, stainless steel mirror arms with new mirrors and a complete set of door hardware with stainless door handles key matched including the ignition. Every single window that can pop out has been converted to a pop out safari style window. To complete the look, the bus sits on a set of 14” steel wheels with white wall tyres.

The interior of the bus has also been completely refurbished to factory standard, all using factory style vinyl. There are three rows of bench seats with seats for nine adults with three point seat belts on the front row and two point seat belts on all other bench seats. The headliner is all new as are the rubbers and glass. The steering where was replaced along with all the dash knobs, buttons and grab handles.

Open the back and you will find a 1600cc engine which has been fully rebuilt with new parts to factory spec. The engine is paired to a four-speed manual gearbox which has also been fully rebuilt. The front end of the bus has been upgraded using Imohr double A arms with height adjustable coil overs and features rack and pinion steering. The braking system is upgraded to discs up front but retains drums on the rear. Finally, the whole bus has been rewired with new electrics for safety and reliability.

These split window Kombi’s are always super popular and this one has been through an extensive restoration in a cool coastal colour combination. The perfect car to park up at your beach house and take your friends out to dinner in style.
