1964 Ford Thunderbird Coupe

HIGHLIGHTS: – Classic American cruiser – Repainted in Metallic blue – Fully rebuilt 390ci V8 engine – Three speed automatic transmission – Power steering and power brakes – Tilt-away steering column – Original style wheels and hubcaps with white wall tyres – Large file with receipts and paperwork

This 1964 Ford Thunderbird is a cool 60s era American classic cruiser. The current owner purchased the car back in 2012 off a gent in Adelaide who had imported it from the California in 2006. At the time the car looked exactly the way you see it now cosmetically but there has been a bunch of mechanical restoration over the period of the current ownership.

Starting with the outside of the car, it is believed that the body of the car was repainted during the previous owner’s tenure. The car is now finished in a cool metallic blue colour and while the paintwork has been done professionally, it would be considered driver quality rather than a perfect show job so if you’re fussy on paintwork we would suggest viewing it in person. The front bumper was rechromed by Gold Coast Electroplating in 2018. To complete the look on the outside the car sits on the original style steel wheels with original hubcaps which received five new white wall tyres less than 1000 miles ago.

Inside the car has been treated to an all new black interior. One of the coolest features of these cars is the ‘tilt-away’ steering which allows the steering wheel to be pushed across to the right, out of the way to enter and exit the vehicle. The column locks back into place when the car is shifted into gear. The steering column, wheel and part of the dash have been colour coded to the external paintwork. A set of Spitfire aftermarket gauges have been sunk into the factory locations. The factory front bucket seats, full length console and wrap around rear seating are among some of the coolest factory styled interior pieces of that era. The driving experience is improved thanks to power steering and power brakes.

Under the bonnet lives the original 390ci V8 engine which was completely rebuilt by Licon Automotive in 2014. The engine was taken back to a bare block and sleeved before receiving an all new crank, pistons, timing gear etc. The engine is topped with a new 650 cfm Holley carb with electric choke. The engine is paired to the factory cruise-o-matic automatic transmission which has been recently serviced, with all new filters and the clutches adjusted by Russell’s automatics in Oxenford. The suspension and steering all remain factory. The brake master cylinder was resleeved along with a new brake booster diaphragm for the standard power drums front and rear. The engine bay is neatly detailed with body coloured inner guards and chrome air cleaner, rocker covers and radiator overflow tank.

The current owner tells us that the car recently received all new oils and filters and is ready for the new owner to get out on the road and cruise. The sale includes a paperwork large file with various receipts and manuals.
