This 1963 Volkswagen Kombi 15 Window Deluxe Walk Through is one of the coolest split window Kombi’s you will ever come across. The bus is very well spec’d from factory and underwent a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration with some minor upgrades.

The Kombi started life in as a rare 1963 15 Window walk through Deluxe model and was found sitting in Philadelphia before being brough to California for its full restoration. The bus was stripped back to a shell and then back to bare metal with any necessary repairs made on a rotisserie. The whole bus was then recoated in its original, and one of the most desirable colour combinations available of L289 Blue White and L380 Turquoise two tone. The bus has not been chopped up or converted in any way being a true 15 window walk through in this original colour scheme when it left the factory. Almost every window in the bus pops out including the front and rear safari windows for great airflow throughout and a look that is hard to beat. An accessory luggage rack is fitted to the roof for a cool period look. The bus sits slammed down nice and low over a set of genuine 15” Porsche Fuchs polished wheels with wide white wall tyres all round.

Inside, the bus looks as good as it does outside being beautifully retrimmed and nicely finished from top to bottom. The interior has been done in its original colour of Cosmo green. The unique walk through front seating and short middle seat combination makes this Kombi stand out from many of the others around. There is a small stereo system fitted for tunes while cruising but outside of that everything inside is factory.

Mechanically, this bus runs and drives as good as it looks with a fully rebuild air cooled 1600cc single port 4cyl boxer engine under the back paired to a four speed manual transmission. The trans is setup to accept a big displacement engine and built with a Super diff, heavy duty side plate, welded 3rd and 4th gears and a 3:88 ring & pinion freeway flyer. The Bus has a stock German front beam custom modified and narrowed 3 inches By Vintage Metal in Irwindale, Ca. KCR and Old Speed of Southern California were also used to source parts for the build including dropped spindles, rebuilt swing lever, Avis adjusters, new tie rods, new drag link and 944 brakes in the front. The engine bay is well presented as is the whole undercarriage having been painted in body colour.

As far as Kombi’s go they don’t come much cooler than this one. The bus has been meticulously restored with some awesome upgrades in both cosmetics and reliability. It retains its original colour scheme and 15 window walk through layout. Be sure to register and bid if you want to see this one parked in your garage.
