This is a fantastic example of a 1962 Holden EK Special station wagon. The EK was introduced in 1961 as a facelift model of the FB Holden. These cars were the ‘finned’ Holdens of the ‘60’s and a body shape that has remained popular today. This example is a top of the line ‘Special’ model with more chrome and two-tone paint and interior colour schemes.

This vehicles’ current owner is an astute classic car collector and purchased the car as part of a package of three early Holdens from a deceased estate. The car had been restored to original specifications many years ago and has been kept in good condition. The body is painted in its original colour of ‘Cataract Grey’ (which was a light blue) with a white roof. The chrome work appears to have been refinished when the car was painted and presents well. The stainless trims on the car are straight and complete. The car sits over a set of original style steel wheels with hub caps and trim rings.

Inside the interior is well presented all round in its original code ‘971’ Grenadier Red and Athens Grey vinyl. The two-tone trim of the Special models certainly makes the car feel up market. The dash is nicely painted and there is an accessory fan as well as Amps and Oil pressure gauges neatly mounted under the dash. The carpets, trim and headliner are in extremely good condition and present as new. The three windows in the rear have period style venetian blinds in place.

Lift the bonnet and you will find a correct style, 138ci 6-cylinder Holden ‘Grey motor’. The engine is paired to the factory three speed column shift manual transmission. The engine bay is very well presented without any modifications to be seen. One of the features of the EK model was the addition of electric wipers which replaced the old, slow, vacuum units. The brakes and suspension are all stock standard EK items.

These early Holdens have continued to climb in value with the exit of Holden from the Australian market. This is a fantastic example for someone to add to their collection or just buy, drive and enjoy.
