This 1959 Mercury Monterey Coupe was fully restored many years ago and had been part of a large private collection for the last 15 years or so before being sold to its current owner in 2019.
The paint and body are in good condition and is finished in red with white roof. The factory styling is wild with plenty of chrome and stainless trim which is all in good condition. The windscreen is unique and stretches from the top of the roof and then dips low with a low dash and the rear window is a unique wrap around type. The outside is finished with a continental kit on the rear and cruiser style wheel spats.
Under the bonnet is the factory 383ci MEL V8 engine with recently rebuilt carburettor. The cooling system has been fitted with a new water pump and refurbished radiator. The automatic transmission is original. Recent work includes the brakes being completely rebuilt with new master cylinder and wheel cylinders. The entire front end of the car was pulled apart with all new bushes and various steering components replaced. Inside is refinished back to the original style. There are different textures and fabrics around with a mix of stitched vinyl and fabric fresh out of your grandma’s lounge room. The dash is the centre piece with its waterfall style step down gauge cluster that is unique to this vehicle. The dash is padded and set very low and far forward to give greater space within the cabin. The car sits on a set of wide white wall tyres and original style hubcaps.
