This 1959 Ford Ranchero has been restored and upgraded into a super cool classic American cruiser. While a familiar concept to us here in Australia, (a ute) the Ranchero was a little foreign to Americans when it was first released back in 1957 because it blurred the line between a car and a truck. In Australia our utes had been doing this for years, but in America, these were two very different vehicles being combined into one. The Ranchero however did it very successfully, seen more as a gentleman’s workhorse that was comfortable and as luxurious to drive as a car. Chevy would later release their El Camino to capture some of the market given Ford’s success with the model.

This particular example if the last year of the first generation Ranchero and was purchased by the current owner from a gent in Western Australia back in 2015. When the car arrived to his place on the Sunshine Coast it wasn’t quite as good as he was hoping so the decision was made to pull the car down and give it a full bare metal repaint.

The car was sent to BMV engineering who performed a number of rust repairs as well as replacing the tray floor which has seen better days. Once the repairs were complete, the car was sent to Callum Conway to be fully repainted. The car was taken back to bare metal with all Melmotive primers used to seal it, before being hit with colour, in this car a period metallic green sourced from a Peugeot catalogue and Mazda BT50 white which was the crispest white they could find. The chrome and stainless trim on the outside of the car was all either refinished or replaced. The stock rims were powder coated black with brand new white whitewalls sourced from Antique Tyres.

The current owner is a motor trimmer by trade, so naturally the interior needed to look as good as the rest of the car. The dash, steering wheel and window frames were all painted gloss white to match the exterior. North Coast Custom Trimming gave the bench seat a make over in white vinyl with a 1959 Ford Green fabric insert. They also did the door trims to match utilising a stainless trim flash from a 54 Mercury. New black carpets were made for the floor with white edging. There is a trio of aftermarket gauges under the dash and a Lokar shifter for the auto trans poking up through the floor. The inside of the bed is black raptor lined for durability.

Under the bonnet lives a 272ci Ford Y Block V8 engine which was fully rebuilt by Peter Delaney on the Sunshine Coast. The engine has been mated to a Turbo 700 automatic transmission that was fully rebuilt by Kawana Automatics. The diff, suspension and braking system are all factory items with the brakes being fully rebuilt at the same time as the engine build. Finally, the car was fully rewired front to back by Classic Auto Electrical.

These Ranchero’s are rare cars here in Australia and good examples are particularly hard to find. This is your opportunity to own one of the nicest 59 Ranchero’s in the country. Be sure to register and bid now if you can see this bad boy parked in your garage.
