1959 Chevrolet Big Block Corvette

HIGHLIGHTS: – Tastefully modified C1 Corvette – Frost Blue metallic with white coves – 454ci Chevy Big Block V8 engine – Five speed Tremec manual transmission – Nine inch Posi-Trac rear end – Disc brake front end – White folding convertible soft top – 67 big block style bonnet scoop – 17/18” American Racing Torq Thrust 2 wheels

This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette convertible has been given some old school style, Go-Fast upgrades. The first generation of Corvette’s are truly iconic vehicles with timeless styling and classic charm. While most of them are nice Sunday cruisers, the one you see here packs a little more ponies under the hood.

The body of the car has been professionally repainted in Frost Blue metallic with contrasting white coves. The chrome and trim is mostly original and in good condition. The bonnet has been modified with a ’67 big block style bonnet scoop hinting at something lurking underneath. There is a white convertible soft top that folds neatly away behind the front seats. The car has an old school street racer style raked stance with the shackles for the rear leaf springs flipped upside down. The car sits over a set of American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels measuring 17” up front and 18” in the rear.

Inside the car has received a freshen up with new seat covers and new carpets. The dash and gauges are both original items. The factory steering wheel remains in place and there are colour coded, period style lap seat belts added for safety. Like every true sports car there is a manual transmission with three pedals and floor shifter.

Under the bonnet the original 283ci V8 is long gone with a 454ci Big Block shoe horned in its place. Being such a small car, the big block is a massive performance increase over the original engine. Spark is supplied through an MSD 6AL digital ignition box and the battery has been relocated to the boot. The engine bay is dressed well with chrome air cleaner and finned rocker covers. Exhaust gasses escape through new headers into a custom dual exhaust that exits in the factory location through the holes in the rear bumper. The cooling system has also been upgrade with a big aluminium radiator. The engine is paired to a Tremec 5 speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff with Posi centre. The brakes have been upgraded to discs up front while retaining drums in the rear.

These first gen Corvettes are always extremely popular and you don’t often see them modified in an old school style like this. With a big block under the hood and a five speed on the floor, we think this Vette would be a bunch of fun to drive.
