This 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe has been through a ground up custom rebuild and converted to right hand drive. The current owner has owned this car for almost 30 years, having rebuilt the car in the late 90s. At the time, it was an absolute show stopper, being fitted with some of the latest and greatest upgrades. The car has been extremely well kept since its build having only travelled 11,833kms since completion.

The body of the car was removed from the chassis with the chassis being stripped down bare. As part of the right hand drive conversion, a HZ Holden front end was grafted into the chassis. The whole chassis was them seam welded and finished before being sent off to be powder coated in red to match the body colour. Likewise, the diff, front wish bones and various other componentry were powder coated to match.

The owner purchased a wrecked Corvette Stingray (which was fairly new at the time) for its drivetrain goodies to be transplanted into the Bel Air. The Corvette’s Tune Port Injected 350ci V8 engine and matching four speed automatic were both shoe horned into the Bel Air. The rear end was upgraded to a 9 inch diff with 3:1 gears. The brakes were upgraded to Commodore items and feature power assistance with discs on all four corners. Power steering was added to improve the driving experience.

The body of the car was stripped and received all necessary repairs before being professionally repainted in red. The chrome on the car was all refinished at the same time. The stainless trim was all straightened and polished. A set of Boyd Coddington 15” billet wheels were sourced for the car.

Inside the car was treated to a full custom interior in grey velour. The American dash was cut and fabricated to a RHD configuration before being retro fitted with a Commodore dash cluster. The front seats are buckets with a custom centre console housing the T bar auto shifter. A stereo system was installed during the build featuring a 10 stack CD change in the boot which is trimmed to match.

The car has been previously registered in both QLD and VIC with engineering paperwork for the modifications provided with the sale along with a photo album of the restoration. Even though the car was completed almost 25 years ago, it still presents extremely well and has been lovingly cared for since. 57 Bel Air sports coupes are one of the most Iconic American classic cars and this one has some awesome upgrades and improvements.
