This 1957 Chevy Belair Sport Coupe has been extensively upgraded into a tough street machine. A ‘57 Chevy Belair is one of the most iconic American classic cars and a pillarless sports coupe is the body style that most people want to own. This one takes that desirability to another level being black on black, right hand drive converted, with a blown stroker V8 under the bonnet, and on air suspension.

The car comes to us from South Australia where it has lived with its current owner for over 10 years. The car was restored by the previous owner in the early 2000s and converted to RHD prior to the restoration. Since purchasing the car, he has continued to improve it with a new motor and trans set up along with various other features.

The body of the car was stripped back to bare metal and fully repainted in gloss black during the restoration. Although older, the paintwork presents well for its age. The chrome work and trim were also refinished at the same time. The car is slammed to the ground thanks to airbag suspension all round. The external look is finished with a set of Boyd Wheels with black centres measuring 18” up front and 20” in the rear.

Inside, the first thing you will notice is that the car is converted to right hand drive. The bench seats and door trims have been retrimmed in a black vinyl and velour combination. The dash is fitted with Dakota Digital gauges and there is a Flaming River tilt steering column holding an aftermarket steering wheel. There is a big stereo system with Apline Bluetooth head unit hidden in the glove box, Rockford Forgate speakers in the kick panels and parcel shelf and two Alpine Amplified and a 12 inch subwoofer fitted into a custom stall in the boot.

Under the bonnet lives a Blown Chevy 383ci stroker V8 built by Wayne at Racecomp Motorsports in 2015. The engine features, alloy heads and is topped with a BDS 6/71 supercharger and dual Quickfuel carburettors. On the engine dyno, the combo made 707 hp at 6500 rpm and 617 Ftlbs of torque at 5200 rpm on 98 pump fuel. The engine is paired to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission built by Paul Rogers with convertor made to suit engine hp and torque. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch differential. The steering has been upgraded to a Flaming River RHD power steering rack. The brakes have also been upgraded to power assisted four wheel discs. The suspension has air bags on all four corners with Accuair e-level air management with preset ride heights and self levelling.

A ’57 Belair Sport Coupe is right up there with some of the most desirable 50s American classic cars in the market.  This one is RHD, finished in Black on Black, with a stroked and blown V8 and on airbag suspension and has been upgraded in almost ever possible area.
