This 1957 Buick Century coupe is a cool custom American 50s cruiser. The Century model was a sweet spot in the 57 Buick Model range because it was the most up market version that retained the super cool factory three-piece rear window and shorter wheel base. The car came out of Oregon, where it was restored by vintage drag racing enthusiast and car collector. Then current owner purchased the car in 2003 and imported to Australia where it has lived since.

The paint and body on the car was all refurbished while the car was in the US. The car has been repainted in its original colour scheme of Mint Green and teal but the two colours have been flipped in location from factory. The bright work on the car has all been refurbished over the years and is in good condition. The exception to this is the passenger side tail light surround, of which a refurbished item will be supplied with the car but the owner chose to keep original for a specific reason. The story is that the car was actually used as a getaway car for a robbery in the 60s where the store owner came out and fired at the car as it drove away, piercing the tail light housing in two places. It is such a cool story and talking point that the owner decided to leave it on the car despite having a new item to replace it. The car sits slammed down over a set of 15” chrome smoothie wheels with wide white wall tyres.

Inside the car has been retrimmed during the restoration and there is enough room to seat six adults in comfort. The factory Century swirled dash facia remains in place as does the original steering wheel. There is an aftermarket tacho mounted to the column and a trio of gauges under the dash. An accessory tissue holder is a cool touch under the dash and there is a 90s era factory look aftermarket radio mounted in the dash. Creature comforts include power steering and power brakes.

Under the bonnet lives the factory original 364ci Buick Nail head V8 engine that was rebuilt and upgraded during the restoration in around 2000. The engine now features a dual quad manifold with two Holley four barrel carbs proudly sitting on top. Other upgrades include a Pertronix electric ignition system to get rid of the old point and an electric fuel pump and in tank liner. The engine bay is neatly presented with finned rockers covers. The engine is paired to the factory Dynaflow automatic transmission. The steering is power assisted from the factory and the car came standard with Treadlevac power assisted brakes. The braking system was rebuild around 12 years ago including the Treadlevac booster and now runs Dot 5 silicone brake fluid. The biggest upgrade on the car is the airbag suspension by Air Ride. It is manually operated by switches under the dash but allows the car to be driven at standard height or slammed down low to the ground for a cool custom look.

The car comes to us from a collection and rarely gets driven having only travelled around 1500 kms in the last 10 years. You may note in the pics that the windscreen does have a small crack in it however a replacement windscreen will be supplied with the car. A cool classic American custom cruiser.
