1956 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE

HIGHLIGHTS: – Full rotisserie restoration – Repainted in original colour of Fiesta Red – Detailed engine bay and undercarriage – 312ci V8 engine – Automatic transmission – Power steering and brakes – Air conditioning – Power windows and seat – Removable hard top and soft top

This 1956 Ford Thunderbird is fully loaded with options and has been through a full rotisserie, nut and bolt restoration. The ‘56 year model was smack bang in the middle of the first generation Thunderbirds or ‘Baby Birds’ as they later became known. The ’56 year model was known for the introduction of the Port Hole windows in the removable hardtop, opening fender vents, rear bumper exit exhausts as well as the rear mounted spare wheel continental kit which was unique to this year.

This car went through a full nut and bolt, rotisserie restoration in 2002 to an extremely high standard by a die hard T-Bird enthusiast. The body was removed from the chassis and stripped back to be fully repainted in its original colour of Fiesta Red. The colour is quite unique and great care was taken to ensure the correct shade was used which is a cool period pinky/red colour rather than the fire engine bright reds you often see on restored cars. The exterior chrome and stainless trim was all either replaced or refinished at the same time. The car features both a removable hard top in white with the iconic port hole windows and a new black fold away soft top. Completing the look on the outside is a set of wide white wall tyres with optional wire style hubcaps.

The interior of the car has been fully refinished in the original pattern in red and white. This car is absolutely loaded with every option you could want in a T-Bird including; Air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, four-way power seat and telescopic steering column. The factory deep dish steering wheel and see through gauge cluster transport you back in time straight to the 50s.

Under the reverse opening hood lives the larger optional 312ci Y-Block V8 engine. The engine bay is finished to an extremely high standard in a factory presentation. The engine is paired to the optional Ford-o-matic automatic transmission. As mentioned previously the car is optioned with power steering and power brakes. The underside of the car is highly detailed with the body painted all underneath and concours style markings.

This ’56 T-Bird is loaded with every option you could have in one of these cars and has been restored to an award winning standard. The car was issued the Senior Gold Medallion Award by the International Thunderbird Club for its originality and quality of restoration. Is this Australia’s best 1956 Ford Thunderbird? We’ll let you decide…
