This is one super cool mild custom 1950 Chevy 3100 pick up. These trucks are super popular now days but finding one in good condition is always a difficult task. These trucks weren’t babied from new, they were work horses and were beaten around, sat out in fields and often didn’t live great lives. They were also very primitive from the factory as far as creature comforts, ride quality and fit and finish. It is for this reason many of these trucks on the road today are modified and heavily upgraded to something that is easier to live with on a daily basis.

This particular truck has been stripped back to a bare chassis and rebuilt into a period mild custom that has all the right gear to be a heap of fun and super nice to drive. Starting with the chassis, the old leaf spring front end was ditched in favour of Mustang II independent front suspension with rack and pinion power steering. In the rear, the leaf springs have been upgraded to include tramp rods.

The engine itself is a very cool but unique choice, instead of going the small block V8 path like most would, the truck received a beautifully built GMC 302ci inline 6cyl engine. This may seem like an unusual choice but these big 6 engines have a big following in the traditional custom and drag racing scene and is a long way from the little 235ci these things would have had originally. The engine feature a bunch of goodies including dual carbs, remote oil filter, finned valve covers and side plates and a full custom split exhaust running out to the back. The engine itself is putting out an estimate 275hp which is pretty stout for a truck like this. The engine bay is nicely detailed with lots of polished parts and a super trick custom trimmed firewall. The engine is paired to a floor shifted Tremec T5 gearbox with hydraulic clutch. The power is then fed to the rear wheels via a 9” ford diff with a 3.55 Posi center. The truck features four wheel power disc brakes and has had the fuel tank relocated from behind the front seats where it was from the factory to under the tub. All these upgrade means the truck drives beautifully down the road, it has plenty of power and stops and steers a million times better than a stock truck did.

The body on the truck is nice and solid, it is repainted in a period style Green. The chrome work has all been nicely refinished and includes ribbed bumper bars front and rear with number plate surrounds, new chrome grill, headlight surrounds, new chrome door handles and chrome window surrounds. Some very mild body modifications include the fuel filler shaved off the car with a neat filler door relocated to the rear guard. The tail lights have been tucked nice and close to the body and the tub is nicely finished with end caps front and rear on each side. There is a neat little roll pan to finish off the back of the tub behind the ribbed bumper. The big tailgate chains have been removed with neat little internal wires and locks holding the tail gate instead. The bed itself has all new gloss finished bed wood with chrome strip separators. Inside there is a complete period custom trim by Tim Norman.

The interior trim in this car is nothing short of a show piece. Heavily inspired by late 50s Corvette, the truck features a 57 Corvette steering wheel attached to a chrome tilt steering column. 1957 Corvette square patterned gold inserts are neatly used in the custom door trims, custom head lining and custom floor mats. The seats are two individual buckets finished in traditional white tuck and roll with a moulded rear panel that seamlessly joins them together. A neat custom console holds the floor shifter and a set of aftermarket gauges keep an eye on the vitals under the bonnet. Custom gold carpet lines the floor with white edging all round and custom mats. The internal window surrounds have all been beautifully chrome plated on the side windows and the windscreen. The quarter windows have been removed in favour of one piece windows for a cleaner look and they are power operated using the original style window crank as the window switch.

This truck is a seriously cool period custom and while it looks reasonably stock at first glance, the more that you look it over, the more cool stuff you find. We are extremely proud to present this truck for sale for the first time since arriving in the country and think the new owner will love it every bit as much as we do. These trucks are always popular, and this one is an absolute cracker, so get in quick to avoid disappointment.
