This 1928 Ford Model A Tourer Hot Rod combines classic style with tasteful modifications. The car was first registered in Woodenbong, NSW, with the current owner being the second known registered owner in its history. The car was purchased by the current owner from his neighbour who had it stored in pieces in his shed for many years. In 2005 he made a deal with his neighbour to refurbish his tractor in exchange for the Model A and this is where the project began. Over several years, he dedicated his spare time to restoring the car, completing the project and getting the car back on the road in 2019.

The car’s body retains its original design while featuring a resto-rod style. Initially painted in dark green from the factory, it underwent bodywork and received a professional repaint in modern 2 pac at Bangalo Smash Repairs. The colour used is called Night Watch Green from GMH, along with black guards, is a slight twist on the original hue. Prior to being reassembled, the car received rechromed bumpers along with restored grille, headlights, and tail lights. Completing the look externally is a set of 15-inch 60-spoke wires sourced from Australian Classic wire wheels. It also includes a matching rear-mounted spare and a tool kit conveniently stored under the seat.

The interior of the Model A has been refinished by Angie’s Trim in Inverell, NSW. The seats and door trims are finished in a chamois-coloured marine-grade vinyl. The tourer soft top has been modified to a ridged frame for a full lift-off design, replacing the original fold-back configuration. Aftermarket gauges provide additional functionality to the cabin. A small stereo system discreetly complements the driving experience.

Under the hood the original four banger is gone and has been replaced with a 302ci Windsor V8. The  engine and transmission in the car were both sourced from a 1971 ZD Fairlane that the owners sister had written off back in 1971 and had stored in the shed with less than 30,000 miles on it. The engine has been upgraded with a 350cfm Holley carburetor, an upgraded MSD ignition system, headers, and a custom exhaust. The power is transmitted through a C4 transmission sourced from the same ZD Fairlane. The rear end features a V8 Torana (HB) banjo-type differential. The chassis has been upgraded to include a HT Monaro coil spring front end with a triangulated rear suspension with coil-over shocks. Steering has been upgraded to rack and pinion, adapted from a Commodore. King springs and shocks further improve the ride quality. The brakes have been upgraded with disc brakes sourced from a HT model up front and HB 253 Torana drum brakes in the rear. The entire wiring system has been refinished with a hot rod wiring loom.

The car was completed in 2019 and has only covered approximately 3,500 kms since. The car has been mod plated and engineered to meet Queensland’s LH10 requirements for full registration. This is a rare opportunity to own a tastefully hot rodded, real steel, original Model A.
