This 1971 Holden HQ LS Monaro Coupe has been through a full custom build into a tough and tidy street car. The car was purchased by its current owner in April of 1998. At that time, it had been completely stripped by the previous owner who intended to rebuild it but never got there. The new owner sent the Monaro off the to panel beaters in 1999 for complete body and rust repairs before being painted in Portec 2pac undercoat for protection. Shortly after this the build stalled and the car sat in that state in the owners shed for almost 16 years. It wasn’t until 2016 that the car would be taken back to bare metal again for piece of mind before being painted by Murray at Spray Chief in Sunset Red Candy Pearl.  All of the bright work including front and rear bumpers, door handles and various stainless trims were all refinished or replaced. Completing the look on the outside is a set of B45 Simmons wheels measuring 15×7.5” up front and 15×9” in the rear.

Open the door and you are met with a fully refinished interior. The door trims and hood lining were ordered through Winner Products with the seats trimmed in vinyl to match. A new dash pad was used over a GTS dash. There is a custom centre console with cup holders, aftermarket gauges and B&M shifter. Keeping things cool inside is a Vintage Air A/C unit which is all mounted behind the dash to use the original vents. There is a small stereo system with CD headunit for tunes while cruising.

Under the bonnet is a built 400ci small block Chevy V8 engine. The engine is built by Engine Centre Rockhampton and uses a New Dart SHP pro iron block, AFR 220cc alloy heads, Scat forged crank and rods, SRP forged pistons (11-1 comp), Bullet racing hyd roller cam and lifters, Yella Terra Pro street roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM performer intake and topped with a Quick fuel Q-series 850cfm carb. Ignition is provided by an MSD Billet distributor with MSD 6al-2 ignition control and MSD HVC-2 coil. The engine is paired to a rebuilt Turbo 400 transmission with Dominator 2500RPM stall convertor. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a nine inch diff from John Traverna Chassis with Strange nodular iron centre using Detroit Truetrac 35 spline with 3.55 ratio. The suspension received all new Pedders springs and shocks with Whiteline front and rear sway bars. The steering is power assisted to make for a nice drive. Finally the brakes have been upgraded to include new Wilwood calipers and lines up front with factory 9” drums on the rear. The brake master cyl, slave syl and brake booster are all new with stainless steel lines used throughout.

This Monaro has been through some extensive upgrades and transformed into a super neat and fun street car. Two door HQ’s are always super popular when we get them in so be sure to register and bid if you want to see this oner parked in your garage.
